The Agriculture Running and Walking Crew, sponsored by ESRA celebrates USDA’s 157th anniversary with a Virtual 5K Race to commemorate the signing of legislation to establish the Department on May 15, 1862 by President Abraham Lincoln.
Participants in this event will receive a T-shirt, medal and finisher certificate. In addition, awards will be presented for top times overall and in age groups. Runners must run 5K (3.105 miles) between May 30 and June 15 and submit their times on our event website. Result reports are due by June 16 and final standings will be posted on June 17.

Registration Deadline to Receive Shirt & Medal by race day: May 15th Registrations received after that date are not guaranteed delivery of their Shirt and Medal by race day. Shirts and Medals will be shipped in the order they are received.

1. How and where do I run the 5K?
You can run any time between May 30 and June 16, and run where you wish. Either map out your 5K course in advance using mapmyrun or just run with your GPS until you reach 5K. Run or walk alone or reach out and invite your friends to join you in a 5K.
2. Do I have to take a picture of my run?
We operate on the honor system. You can take a self-portrait or a photo of your Garmin if you wish and post it to our
Ag-Running and Walking Crew Facebook page (ask for invite since is a closed group for USDA employees, contractors and family ) . Also, remember to use the hashtag #AgRWC when posting your photos on social media.
3. I will walk 5K with my dog. Is my time "too slow" to post?
We welcome athletes of all speeds, and all times are welcome.
4. Where do I pick up my shirt and medal?
If you are local to the DC area, shirts and medals will be picked up in the ESRA Fitness Center in the located in the sub-basement of the USDA HQ South Building ( 1400 Independence Avenue, SW, DC 20250) at the end of May. An email with more information will be sent out prior to pick-up. If you would like your shirt and medal shipped to you, please select that option when registering. (A $7 shipping charge applies.)
